Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)
This course is a training award perfect for everyone who would like to know how to keep themselves and others safe, and how to rescue other kayaks and canoes. It is also a prerequisite for coaching awards. This award may be taken in any paddle-sport craft and candidates are shown how to complete the rescues in both canoes and kayaks, the course is completed over 6 hours on sheltered water.
The course starts by covering the general theory and planning of rescues and moves on to safety and rescue protocols. You will then cover bank based rescues including coach a swimmer to shore, rescue a swimmer with a rigid aid and then by using a throw line. You will also cover boat based rescues including; rescue a swimmer from the water, rescue a capsized paddler using a deep water rescue, rescue an unconscious or entrapped paddler from their boat, use of towlines, self-rescue and all in rescue’s. Lastly you will cover some scenario’s to put the skills learnt during the day into practice.
